Establishing an annual tradition

Welcoming a new fundraiser, over 70 students including Johnston Mayor Paula Dierenfeld participated in a 5k race for “Amanda the Panda” at Beaver Creek Elementary May 14. Through grief counseling and multiple therapies, this organization offers its services from West Des Moines to all across the state of Iowa for those struggling with the death of a loved one. Registration began at 7 a.m. for those who hadn’t signed up prior to May 14, followed by the 3.1 mile trek at 8 a.m., and a concert hosted by the “Yelps” at 8:30 a.m. With the success of this event, Student Council plans to continue the partnership with the organization for years to come.
