“I first started band in 5th grade. Since I had played piano before, I got really good at the flute because I didn’t need to learn to read music. It came really easily to me, and I started liking it more and really wanted to play harder music. Once I got to high school with marching band, band felt more like a family atmosphere. Everybody after school goes to the band room and chills out even if they don’t need to be there. Its a place for all the band kids to hang out and you always know you can rely on other band kids. Its a really welcoming atmosphere, and I really wanted to be a part of that and make other people feel welcome.”
