Art department explores Art Center
The Photo Art and the Essentials of Art classes traveled to the Des Moines Art Center and the Pappajohn Sculpture Park Nov. 15. The students were assigned to interpret meanings of the art and observe techniques artists used in their pieces. Once students arrived back at school, they had the time to sit and reflect on what they saw. “It’s really important to see artwork first hand,” art teacher Emily Phillips said. “There’s a difference with engaging a real artwork in person versus from a book. It’s a more intimate experience.”
