Big Give charity announced
This year’s Big Give charity will be the Iowa Donor Network (IDN). This charity won a majority of votes among student council members during a morning student council meeting Nov. 15.
Proceeds from student council events such as overtime, talent show, coin war, dodgeball tournament, winter formal and bake sale will be donated to the Iowa Donor Network.
IDN is a non-profit organization that operates as the primary contact for organ, tissue and eye donation services for the state of Iowa. After the death of Hank Evans due to a long boarding accident, IDN helped Evans’ parents by providing them with the opportunity to meet the people who received Hank’s organs. IDN also had a service of remembrance for Hank where both his parents shared their story.
Additionally, IDN has helped many students like Riley Kenin ’19 and her family. Kenin had suffered a knee injury and was in need of a new ligament. “[The Iowa Donor Network] have made it possible for me to get a new knee ligament and my dad to get a new kidney in the future,” she said.
