Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball Teams Win Against Southeast Polk

Girl’s basketball won their game on Feb. 4 2019 against the Southeast Polk Rams 89-67. Maya McDermott ’20 lead the team in points with 28, while making 11 shots on 19 attempts, and assists with seven. The Dragons’ top three scorers, McDermott, Maddie Mock ’20, and Regan Nesheim ’19 each had over 20 points. They got off to a hot start leading by eight at the end of the first quarter. At the half they led by 13 points, 40-27. In the third quarter the Dragon defense faltered and let the Rams score 26 points in the 3rd quarter. Their offense however was able to make up for the poor defense scoring 27 points in the third giving them a 14 point lead. The fourth quarter was more of the same like in the first half as they dominated the Rams to get their eight straight win and 18th win of the year and their record improved to 18-2.

The Boys varsity won their basketball game on Feb. 4, 2019 against the Southeast Polk Rams 51-44. Southeast Polk jumped out to an early lead going up 19-12. Down 7 in the 2nd quarter the Dragons came back to only down three at the half. After a pretty evenly played 3rd quarter, Dragons finished the game with a very strong defensive showing in the 4th quarter. They only allowed 6 points in the final quarter to win the game to improve their record to 13-4. Peyton Williams ’19 led the team with 19 points. Williams made all of his 8 attempted field goals while going 3-4 from the free throw line. Williams and Reid Grant ’21 led the team in rebounds with 5 each.
