Boys and Girls Varsity Track Runs at Urbandale

Boys and Girls varsity track competed at Urbandale on April 18, 2019. In the long jump Phavian Moorer ’20 jumped 19 feet 6 inches. Moorer placed second to David Odunsi ’19 from Urbandale. Aaron Potter ’19 won shot put by throwing 45 feet 6 inches. The sprint medley team won with a time of 1:38.65. Quincy Hale ’20 and Parker Shupe ’20 ran the 100 meter leg with Jordan Rusch ’20 running the 200 meter leg and Andrew Bauer ’20 finishing the race with the 400 meter leg. Joe Schaefer ’19 won the 3200 meter run. He ran 9:57.65 which beat the competition by 20 seconds. The 4×800 meter relay team placed third with a time of 8:40.52. The order went Jason White ’20, Matt Borgmeier ’21, Sam Schmitz ’20, and Nick Hawn ’20. The shuttle hurdle relay team won with a time of 1:04.84. Kyle Schneider ’19 went first, Max Roquet ’21 went second, Tyler Kronlage ’21 ran third, and Caden Haggerty ’22 closed it out. In the 499 meter dash Schaefer placed second. Schaefer ran 52.23 barely losing to Ashton Brown from Dowling Catholic who ran 51.77. The 4×200 team placed second  with 1:32.24. Moorer started, Zach Abbey ’20 ran the second leg, Rusch ran the third leg, and Matthew Kleigl ’20 finished the relay. Karson Kleve ’20 won the 800 meter run. Kleve ran 2:01.93 which was half a second faster than Drake Hansen from Southeast Polk who placed second. Nicholas Garcia ’21 placed second in the 200 meter dash. Garcia’s time was 23.55. Luke Perman ’19 placed third in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:31.25. The 4×100 meter relay team won with a time of 45.40. Hale ran the first leg, Aidan Moore ’21 ran second, Shupe ran third, and Rusch ran the final leg. To finish the night for the boys the 4×400 team placed second with a time of 3:26.75. Moorer ran first, then Bauer, then Kleve, then Kliegl anchored the race.

Hanna Gray ’19 placed third in the discus throw. She threw 109 feet 9 inches. To start the running events for the girls the sprint medley placed second with a time of 1:52.93. The order went Emma Roethler ’21 running the 100, then Jaden Studer ’20 running the second 100, running the 200 was Sam Strauss ’21, and finishing the race with a 400 was Fehn. Lauren Urban ’19 won the 3000 meter run with Bailey Vaughan ’22 placing second. Urban’s time was 11:28.40, while Vaughan’s time was 11:35.79. The 4×800 meter relay team placed second with a time of 10:08.20. Aleah Tenpas ’22 started the relay with Faith Nead ’22 following, Abby Hutchins ’21 ran third, and anchoring was Lily Trenkamp ’22. The shuttle hurdle relay placed third with a time of 1:10.10. Ciara Wheeler ’21 ran first, Matayah Naylor ’20 ran second, third was Ava Smithson ’22, and finishing the race was Leah Johnson ’20. In the 100 meter dash Roethler placed second with a time of 13.08. The 4×200 meter relay placed third with a time of 1:48.77. Avery Kamienski ’19 lead off, Strauss ran second, Studer ran third, and finishing the race was Chloe Fehn ’20. In the 800 meter run Bella Heikes ’21 placed second with a time of 2:20.48. She was half a second away from winning against Grace Larkins from Southeast Polk. To finish off the night the 4×400 meter relay team placed third with a time of 4:20.16. Nead ran first, then Jayna Janssen ’22, Bella Heikes ran third, and to finish the race Trenkamp.

The next meet to see the varsity runners is at the Drake Relays which start Thursday, April 25 and go through Saturday April 27.
