Boys Win, Girls get Second in District Meet

The girls cross country team grabbed second at the district meet in Council Bluffs. It was a bit of an upset because the team was first in the state and the winners West Des Moines Valley were ranked sixth in the state. Brooke McKee ’20 finished first with a time of 19:16 and Aleah Tenpas ’22 finished third with at time of 19:58. Sam Strauss ’21 and Clara Toot ’20 also finished in the top 10 finishing seventh and ninth with times of 20:18 and 20:22. Bailey Vaughan ’22 and Bella Heikes ’21 finished off the runners in 14th and 17th with times of 21:05 and 21:18. They ended with six all district runners. The girls need to rebound if they want to win their third state title at the state meet on Oct. 27.

The boys cross country team won their district meet. They beat fellow ranked opponents Valley and Sioux City North. Luke Perman ’19 finished third with a time of 16:52 and Carter Borwick ’21 finished fourth with at time of 17:07. Sam Schmitz ’20 finished 10th with a time of 17:21. Joe Schaefer ’19 finsished 14th with a time of 17:27 and Ben Kinman got 16th with a time of 17:33. Nathan Tegeler and Paxson Picken finished of the Johnston runners with finishing 17th and 20th with times of 17:40 and 17:48. The boys finished with four all district runners and will look to place well at the state meet on Oct. 27.
