Childhood Memories

Be careful what is revisited from your childhood when you get older. Sometimes when you look back at an old television show or read an old book they just are not the same as you remember them before.

Let’s start off with some examples. It has become a trend on the app called TikTok and Twitter for people to go back to children’s shows and movies that they used to watch like Phineas and Ferb or Hannah Montana and point out things they missed when they were little. Majority of the time the when they point out things they missed they will be comments or jokes that can seem dirty, because growing up means learning more things. These videos are typically called something along the lines of, ‘This Will Ruin Your Childhood.” Finding these comments and jokes change how you might look at characters and plotsĀ  of the shows and movies. In most cases I wish I never watched them so the things can stay innocent in my mind.

Another example is that fact that I have tried rereading the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan. This series used to be one of my favorites when I was little, however these books which are only like two hundred pages long and should take me only a few hours to read I can barely get through. They are not as intriguing and fast paced as I remember. I think since I am a bit of book nerd, the fact that I have read so many books I can compare the series to them now. I will forever love the Percy Jackson series and the spin-off series Heroes of Olympus because I grew up with them but my opinion of the writing has changed drastically as I have grown.

This is a main reason why I have not reread Harry Potter for awhile, I love that series so much and I would rather my opinion of it not change because it is so dear to my heart. I will probably end up reading it again however it will be at a time when I am sure I will enjoy as much as I always have.

My point is some of the things in your memories might not be the same if you revisit them now. Maybe that means now is the time to revisit a food you did not like when you were younger, or that you should not watch your favorite episode of Phineas and Ferb ten years in the future because it might change how you saw the show.

People have to remember that most commonly maturity comes with age and their level of maturity can change the outlook or view on life as a whole. Make sure you let some things stay in your childhood so you can look back in your memories to how you saw them in a child’s view.
