Cross country teams succeed at state
The boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed at the state meet in Fort Dodge Oct. 29. Patrick Bose ‘17 was ranked number one in the state going into the race. The boys as a team were ranked sixth in the state. The boys’ team finished sixth and Bose won the race with a time of 15:37. Bose is the first ever boys’ Cross Country Individual State Champion from Johnston. They race next in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, for the Nike Regional Race to qualify for nationals.
The girls’ team was ranked number one in the state going into the race. They had four runners ranked in the top 15 in the state. The team won the race with a total of 26 points, beating the second place Dubuque’s Hempstead High School by 65 points. Jessica Mckee ‘18 finished second overall with an 18:10 and her sister Brooke Mckee ‘20 finished third with an 18:30.
Update: The girls’ team broke a state record of 28 points, getting 26.
