Dragons fall to Dowling 42-19

On Friday, Sept. 30, the Johnston Dragons (3-2) took on the #2 ranked Dowling Maroons (4-1) at Valley Stadium. Dowling scored a touchdown in the first quarter marking the first points on the board. Sean Strand ’23 scored a touchdown for the Dragons at the beginning of the second quarter, taking the Dragon lead 9-7. The game stayed close with Tatum Fox ’23 scoring a second touchdown for the Dragons during the third quarter. The Dragons fought hard throughout the third quarter keeping a close game behind the Maroons 21-19. In the last seconds of the third quarter, Dowling scored their fourth touchdown of the game. Johnston’s offense stayed determined through the fourth quarter but failed to gain enough steam to take back the game. Johnston lost 42-19 with Dowling scoring two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Adrian Broadus ’24 said “Friday really showed us that we can compete with a top team in the state but we have to finish games and play all four quarters. This team has lots of talent and can be a top team in the state. We just have to finish.” The Dragons will play the Sioux City North Stars away at Morningside College on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 7:00 p.m.
