In their first game of the 2018 playoffs the Dragon football team played against the Cedar Rapids Prairie Hawks. Both Johnston and Cedar Rapids entered the playoffs with a regular season record of 7-2, but after the game Johnston’s record comes out to be 8-2 with its losses against Dowling and Waukee. Johnston was given the 8th seed while Cedar Rapids had the 9th seed due to Johnston’s having a greater success. Although Prairie only allowed Johnston to score one touchdown in the second half, the Dragons already had enough points with 21 in the first half and eking a score out in the third quarter.

With this win Johnston goes on to the second round of the playoffs against no.16 seeded Southeast Polk. In the first round of the playoffs, Southeast Polk upset the number one team in the state, Ankeny Centennial.
