Memories reach reality

Clay 1 classes are working on creating visual representations of portions of their life. They are supposed to use slabs, flat pieces of clay, to create 3D forms that form a box shape. Their forms are not restricted in any way other than being within a seven by seven inch box. The forms can have however many sides a student wants, and can be held together in any way.

Art teacher Emily Phillips urges students to not only think outside of the box, but to disregard the box all together. She wants them to create a form that describes them or a part of their life, and to use words or symbols to help represent what they’re trying to form.

Any students who believe they have progressed well with their slab boxes or haven’t thrown that week are supposed to practice their wheel work. All students are practicing making cylinders approximately once a week.
