The 5k for Karen was held Friday June 20 during the Johnston Green Days Festival. This was the seventh year the event was held in honor of Karen Coaldrake, an active member of the Johnston community who died in 2008. The run/walk raises over $4000, and it all goes back to the community targeting kids such as the soccer clubs, Little League and the school foundation.
“I like that fact that it is a healthy lifestyle and we provide the opportunity for people in the community to get together for a run or walk,” Todd Keech, who is a part in organizing the race, said. “Karen would have loved the atmosphere. The best part is watching people finish their first race and the smiles on their faces when they receive the finishers medal.”
