Skipping Class

Skipping class is normal for the average teen, it is a right of passage. There is a literal day that is dedicated to skipping class for seniors. However, I have never had the guts to do it.

I have missed class for excusable absences like being sick, field trips and other situations but I have never straight skipped a class. I have definitely thought of skipping though. There was one day I specifically remember, it was actually the day after I got my first round of the COVID-19 Vaccine, that I wanted to skip.

I was walking down the hall toward Economics and I actually like stopped and thought about how much I did not want to go. I felt like crap, I knew I would fall asleep, and it just did not seem like a desirable idea. However I then thought about all the things that could happen like my mom would get mad, I could miss important information and I made my feet walk again.

My mom definitely was one of the main concerns in that process of thinking. My mom and I have a great relationship and she has definitely influenced me. My mom thinks that learning is a privilege and we cannot take advantage of that which makes me feel like skipping would be a true disappointment. I do believe that we are privileged that we get to learn however that ideology is slightly outdated and I wish I did not view skipping as such a big deal.

I genuinely have wondered about how people get the guts to skip. How do they avoid the questions that made me chicken out? Do they just not care? How do people do it more than once?

Senior skip day is the Monday after prom. I intend to truly skip class, like no call in no excuse, just straight skipping class. I want the experience before I leave this building. I think I am too tame of a person and I need to step out of my comfort zone before I leave.

High school is suppose to be a time where people learn about themselves, they experience things and experiment with their personalities and skipping class is a part of that experience. Everyone should do it at least once before they graduate so they can have the experience and learn about themselves before they become adults.
