Spring Track Preview
February 21, 2022
With spring coming, girls track runners are getting ready to take on the season with high hopes for another great year. The girls started training in November leading up to February, each Tuesday and Thursday at speed school. The training isn’t over by a long shot, as they will be practicing everyday after school. The track staff is excited to announce coach Buchan returning as the school’s sprinting coach after former coach Kayla Lunn stepped down, as well as Kelly Scott coaching for the hurdlers.
Coming off last season with a new school record for the 4 by 800, the girls are setting the expectations high this year, wanting to set a few more records. State 400 runner, Jayce Blanchard ’23 has been preparing for the season by going to morning lifting as well as getting in various running workouts throughout the week to stay ahead of the crowd. “I train so I can have a better start at the beginning of the season.” Blanchard said.
Students can get out and support the girls track team at their first indoor meet on Thursday, March 10th at the UNI dome. The runners that will be attending this meet will include the top varsity runners so it is bound to be a good time. Closer to home, the first outdoor meet will take place at JHS on March 31st. Moving forward, the girls will have a total of 13 meets throughout the season which lasts through May.
