Academic Decathlon places at state

The Johnston High School Academic Decathlon club placed fifth as a team at the State Competition March 1 and 2 in Mount Vernon. Students also won individual awards over the weekend.

In Honors category, senior Josh Boeschen placed third in mathematics and junior Vaibhav Srikaran placed third in interview.

In Scholastic category, senior Breanna Wiliams placed first in speech and second in the essay.

In the Varsity category, senior John Finn placed third in economics and senior Xavier Gaumer placed second in speech.

The Honors category is made up of students with a GPA of 3.75 or higher. The scholastic category has students with a GPA of 3.0-3.75. The Varsity category is made up of students with GPA of lower than 3.0.
