Another Year, Another Victory
Girls tennis brings home a win at state.

Cari Naanep ’19 dominated the court once again at the girls state tennis championship in Bettendorf, bringing home the state title for a second year in a row. She is the first tennis player in Johnston history to win state tennis in singles, ending her season with 24 wins and zero losses. Naanep beat Arunadee Fernando of Ames 4-6, 6-4, and 6-2, defending her crown from last year’s win as a junior.
Julia Heil ’19 and Dasha Svitashev ’22 also secured their place in doubles, winning 8th in the state. Both Heil and Naanep have played on the tennis team since their freshmen year, and it was Svitashev’s first year playing on the team.
