On Saturday, October 8, 2022, Johnston took home the school’s first ever class 4A boys state golf championship at Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids, Iowa . With a score of 595, the team won by a mere two strokes over Cedar Falls.

Tyler Hermann ’24 is excited to be apart of a record setting team.

“We were overjoyed and proud with winning the state championship
after putting forth all of the preparation to get there. It’s never been done in school history, we executed our plan well against a very competitive field which was exciting to know we really earned the championship” Hermann said.

Beyond the team’s win, Hermann achieved personal goals of his own.

“I improved in my putting and ability to take the emotion out of my
golf shots which helped me to set an example and be a better teammate” Hermann said.
