The boys’ soccer team celebrated senior night with a 6-0 drubbing of Des Moines North on May 3.  This senior class was lead by team captains midfielder Erik Catus ’19 and defender Mitchell Hermon ’19. Goalkeeper Eduard Stancu ’19, defender Matthew Morris ’19, attacker Joey Reyes ’19, defender Colin Rodine ’19, attacker Hope Nkomezi ’19 and defender Kevin Zhao ’19 were also recognized.

The goals were scored by Catus, who scored twice, Nkomezi, Cooper Peddicord ’20, Amar Dupanovic ’21 and Jaden Jacobson ’20. With this win, the boys increase their win streak to four games and move to 7-6 overall on the season.

The boys had a very eventful first ten minutes of the match including three quickfire goals. The first was scored by Catus who grabbed his fourth goal of the season in the 4th minute after a Des Moines North gave up the ball in a dangerous area. Two minutes later in the 6th minute, Catus grabbed his fifth goal of the season when Evan Kilstrom ’20 was fouled just outside the box. Catus took the ensuing free kick which hit the crossbar and went into the back of the net. In the 10th Kilstrom played through Nkomezi with a brilliant pass and Nkomezi cooly finished it past the keeper to make it 3-0.

The rest of the first half was uneventful with the boys dominating possession and creating a lot of chances but not being able to grab a fourth goal. The fourth goal of the half was eventually scored in the 36th minute when a Catus corner was tipped by the Des Moines North goalkeeper, this gave Peddicord an open net and he scored easily with a well taken shot on the half volley.

The second half was more of the same dominance when the boys scored their fifth goal in the 47th when the North goalkeeper spilled a free kick which was recovered by Kilstrom. Kilstrom proceeded to cross the ball into the box and Dupanovic bundled the ball into the back of the net. The boy’s last goal of the night was in the 61st minute when Hermon drove through the defense and played a great pass to Jacobson who finished beautifully past the keeper.
