Boys soccer team remains undefeated

The boys soccer team is undefeated this season with eight wins. The team has won all eight games by at least two or more goals and only being scored on once against Bettendorf in a 3-1 victory. They played defending state champions Iowa City West, who are ranked first, in a preseason scrimmage and won 3-0.

The boys schedule does not get easier. They play sixth ranked undefeated Ankeny Centennial on April 22. The players credit hard work to their early success.

“I think the reason we are undefeated is from the effort and focus we put in to each practice and game,” senior captain Sam Graving said. “This team is unique, there is depth within the squad and a lot of talent. All of these points will contribute to a solid season for JHS soccer.”

The team consists of mostly juniors and seniors with two sophomores and two freshman. Sophomore Elvir Ibisevic starts at the forward position and was ranked top five in the state in goals scored last year, averaging one goal per game. Freshman goal keeper Alex MacGregor is also a bright spot on the team, starting in the goal. The team is overall positive about the upcoming season and looking forward to getting back to the state tournament. “It’s still early but we plan to keep it going.” senior co-captain Pete Lashier said. “Hopefully we will be hosting that championship trophy when it’s all said and done.”
