Last friday starting at 4:30 p.m., 12 high school teams competed in the Johnston boys’ track invite. Including Ames, Ankeny, Ankeny Centennial, Indianola, Valley and seven other teams raced in the invitational. Because the invitational was an early bird meet, there was no overall team placements but the track team had some successful individual runners. Junior Gannon Svestka, senior Zane Johnson, senior Braden Cooper and junior Johnny Pater placed first in the 4×400 meter relay. Freshman Anthony Coleman finished first in the long jump along with freshman Andrew Nord who got first in the 100 meter dash. The first official meet of the season for freshman and sophomores is April 4 at Ames and varsity competes on the ninth at Iowa City West.
