Seven people showed up to the first chess club meeting last Tuesday. “I’ve offered it in the past, but people haven’t come,” supervisor Jesse Dowell said. “This year I put a flyer outside my room and people showed up.”

Senior Teddy Katz is the club’s unofficial captain. “Last year me and a couple of my friends wanted to start the chess club, and in the past Mr.Dowell had hosted the club, so I asked him if he would be willing to revive the club, and he agreed,” Katz said. “I haven’t lost yet to any of the other members. [They] and Mr. Dowell said I could be the [captain] so I agreed.”

The club meets every Tuesday after school until 3:45 p.m in Dowell’s room. “It is not necessarily structured,” Dowell said. “We just get some chess boards out and play.”

Dowell said they will not be participating in competitions right now, however he has not ruled it out. “Right now it’s just a club for fun, and we haven’t done competitions,” Katz said.
