Dragons split with Little Cyclones in double-header

The varsity baseball team took on the Ames High Little Cyclones last night in a double-header at home. The first game ended with a loss for the Dragons 1-3. The second game allowed for the boys to redeem themselves with a score of 2-1.
During the first game junior Sergio Alaniz ran home after senior Tyler Steuber hit a double, making the score 1-0 after the second inning.
The first batter for Ames walked. The next hitter scored a double and sent one home making the game tied after the fourth inning.
In the fifth inning a walk put two Ames runners on first and second base. The pitcher walked yet another batter to load the bases, then a single was scored making the score 1-2. The bases were still loaded and Ames scored one more time making the final score 1-3.
The first three innings of the second game went off scoreless. Ames scored after a runner was on third and a single was hit, making the score 0-1 after the fourth inning.
Senior Seth Hammer took junior Reid Sinnett’s place on second base after a double. Senior Nick Stitzell moved to second allowing Hammer to go to third. Junior Matt Shaver batted next and sent Hammer home making the score 1-1. Next up to bat was junior Clayton Holcomb, who sent Stitzell home, changing the score to 2-1. The final score was 2-1 with the Dragons winning.
The next home game is an invitational against Bettendorf on Saturday.
