Early outs to replace late starts for next year

The school board has voted and approved the decision to have a one hour early out on Wednesdays for all buildings in the district at the coming of the new school year beginning in the fall of 2013. The decision was made at the Feb. 25 school board meeting. The early dismissal time will be used for teacher development at all levels. The new change will replace the current late start arrival on Wednesdays.

For the past several years the district has had a 45 minute late start for the high school building, which was a time for professional development. The 8/9 building has had their own built-in time during the day. At this time, elementary schools have no set time, other than district wide professional development days for their professional development time. The change will allow for professional development for all teachers within the district at the same time.

The school board voted five to one in the approval with board members Mike Farrell, Greg Dockum, Deb Henry, John Dutcher, and Jill Morill voting in favor of the approval and with board member Julie Walter voting against the approval. Board member Marci Cordaro was absent for the vote.
