The varsity football team played S. E. Polk Aug. 29, winning 28-7.  The team had to play in pouring rain, and the dance team performed at half-time in the rain as well. The marching band even performed their “Wicked” set, drenching themselves and their instruments. The forecast states that rain is a possibility for the game against Ankeny as well.

The team is now ranked seventh in the state due to the win and are set to take on Ankeny at home Sept. 5.”I was very proud of the defense and how they played as a whole, and causing four turnovers and giving up only seven points against a good football team,” head coach Brian Woodley said.

The Dragons have been able to evolve over the years and conquer the Rams since their last run with the team, which was a 0-46 loss in 2011. According to Woodley, the Dragons have now been able to put together great things offensively and defensively.

“Offense did a lot of good things and has room for improvement, and special teams led by Tommy Zinselmeier made three field goals and did a nice job of kicking,” Woodley said.
