The girls’ cross country team competed in their first meet August 28 at the DMACC course in Ankeny at the varsity invitational. The junior and senior team placed first, and the freshman and sophomore team placed third.

“Our ninth and tenth graders did a great job starting us off by getting third in the first race of the day,” head coach Patrick Hennes said. “Our juniors and seniors then went out and dominated their race, putting six runners in the top ten.”

Senior Jordyn Kleve won the meet with a time of 14:48. Freshman Jessica McKee placed second with a time of 15:36.  The varsity team is currently ranked second in the state and the girls are excited to compete during the rest of the season.

“The best thing about the meet is that you could really tell that our team members were truly competing,” Hennes said. “It was great to see all of the hard work that they’ve been putting in pay off in a race. It definitely gives us something to build off of for the season.”

The next girls’ cross country meet is an invitational that will take place Sept. 4 against Urbandale at Urbandale Middle School.
