Coralville, Iowa — November 1st, 2025
The Iowa Heartlanders couldn’t get out of a three-game losing skid on Saturday, November 1st, 2025, at Xtream Arena, as the visiting Fort Wayne Komets swept the weekend series, leaving with all six possible points.
James Stefan beat rookie netminder Riley Mercer five-hole at 11:21 into the first period to give the Komets an early 1-0 lead. Josh Groll grabbed the primary assist.
Trevor Janicke would give the Komets some insurance as he tapped in a puck past Mercer to make it a 2-0 game just 2:37 into the second period. Reece Harsch grabbed the primary assist, while Kirill Tyutyayev was awarded the secondary assist. Fort Wayne was outshooting Iowa 23-10 at the halfway point of the second period and outshot Iowa 17-3 in the second period alone.
Ultimately, the Komets shut down the Heartlanders offense and secured a 2-0 win Saturday. Iowa’s power play went quiet during this one as the Komets killed all five of Iowa’s power-play opportunities. They have now killed eight consecutive power plays. Samuel Jonsson secured his second win and second shutout of the weekend, shutting down the Heartlanders offense to secure his third win of the year and second shutout. Riley Mercer was credited with the loss after making 24 saves on 26 shots faced, finishing the game with a .923 save percentage.
The Landers are on the road this weekend in Cincinnati on Friday and Saturday, and they take on Toledo on Sunday.
