#1 Dragons Top #9 Valley 59-22

23 JAN 24 Johnston IA The #1 Dragons Girls (16-0) #9 Valley (8-7) 59-22 in a special night at Johnston High School as Johnston was celebrating their coaches vs. Cancer games. Valley came into this CIML Conference matchup with notable losses to ranked CIML opponents #8 Ankeny (55-50), #4 Waukee (59-48), #13 Waukee Northwest (49-42) and #5 Ankeny Centennial (40-30). Johnston has the latest wins over a ranked opponent at #3 Dowling Catholic (43-31) and #1 Ranked in Nebraska Millard West (75-51). Senior Aili Tanke led the way with 18 points, while junior Amani Jenkins had 11 points in the win.

Dragons Drops a Heartbreaker 58-52 to #4 Valley

23 JAN 24 Johnston IA #4 Valley (10-3) topped the Johnston Boys 58-52 in a heartbreaker game at Johnston High School. Johnston was also celebrating their coach’s vs. cancer game. Valley had a notable loss against a CIML Conference opponent, Waukee (53-49), back on December 21, 2023. Johnston came into this Tuesday night clash with a win over Dowling Catholic (47-40). Valley junior Trevin Jirak led the way for Valley with 16 points. Johnston Senior Trovary Cavil collected 22 points in the loss.

I thought we did some really good things. They are a very good team. We communicated well and took them out of their offense. We did a nice job offensively in running our offense,” said Johnston head coach Courtney Henderson. 

#1 Dragons Prevail a 64-59 Win over #5 Ankeny Centennial 

26 JAN 24 Ankeny IA The #1 Dragons Girls (17-0) Prevailed a nail-biter win over #5 Ankeny Centennial (9-7) 64-59 in a Friday Night CIML Conference Clash at Ankeny Centennial High School. Ankeny Centennial came into this game with notable games against CIML Conference opponents #12 Waukee Northwest (52-45), #11 Southeast Polk (51-40), #9 Valley (40-30), and a notable loss to #4 Waukee (60-53). The Dragons looked to keep their winning ways and their undefeated season alive. Senior Aili Tanke and junior Amani Jenkins scored a combined total of 35 points. Tanke scored 19 points, and Jenkins  scored 16 points.

Dragons top Iowa City Library 55-42 

27 JAN 24   Waukee IA The Dragon Boys (9-6) faced off against Iowa City Library (5-8) for the first time in school history Saturday afternoon. This was one of two games played on Saturday as Johnston took part in a MVC-CIML showdown. Seniors Dalen Huston and Trovary Cavil scored a combined total of 33 points in the win. Huston 20 points and Cavil 13 points. Johnston shot a team field goal percentage of 51%.

Saturday afternoon games can be tough. I felt we executed pretty good defensively,” said Johnston Head Coach Courtney Henderson.
