Jacob Helgeson caps perfect season with state title victory

Jacob Helgeson ’25 ended his perfect season with the class 3A state wrestling title. Helgeson won at 152 pounds.

“I felt confident pretty much the whole year. And I got a little banged up with injuries a little bit but other than that I was pretty confident the whole year.” Helgeson said.

Other Johnston wrestlers made it to state too. Braden Blackorby ’24 took 2nd place at 145 pounds, Sam Zindel ’23 took 4th place at 182 pounds, Kaia Fox ’23 took 5th place at 170 pounds and Jashua Anglo ’25 took 7th place at 126 pounds. As a team Johnston placed top eight at the 2023 IHSAA state wrestling tournament.
