The girls’ varsity softball team beat Waukee 2-0 in game one and lost 3-4 in game two at home June 18.

JGSA (Johnston Girls Softball Association) night is a celebration of young girls and the softball program. The girls are able to get into the game free when they wear their softball jersey from JGSA’s recreational league.  The night offers free food and raffle awards for the girls.

Game one was an easy win for the Dragons shutting out the Warriors the whole game.

In game two, the Warriors led 3-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning when Johnston scored two. In the bottom of the fifth, sophomore Maddie Thilges hit a home run to left field to tie the game. The Warriors pulled ahead by one in the top if the sixth inning and the Dragons couldn’t rally back.

The Dragons play next in the Urbandale invitational tournament this coming weekend.
