Johnston Baseball Slides into Championship

On Tuesday, July 19,  #1 ranked Johnston got their first win in the class 4A state tournament. Johnston played at Duane Banks Baseball Stadium against Iowa City Liberty.

Johnston outscored Liberty 6-3, racking up 5 hits, including a solo home-run from Tyne Weeden ‘24 in the bottom of the sixth.

Carter Wollums ‘23 was on the mound for the Dragons, pitching 4 complete innings.  Pierce Anderson ‘23 came in as relief and Sam Hesselman ‘23 closed the game.

In the semifinals, The Dragons played Waukee Northwest on Thursday, July 21 at 5:00pm. Johnston’s bats were hot, putting up 11 runs on the scoreboard and allowing 3.

Jake Pemble ‘22 had plenty of insurance from his offense, and threw over 6 innings with 10 strikeouts.

The Dragons play Dowling Catholic on Friday, July 22 at 7:30, and are hoping to end the season with a championship title.
