Johnston baseball came into the 2022 season with a target on their backs as the #1 seed. Many predicted the team would falter and be bumped out by an underdog, but the Dragons didn’t budge.

On Friday, July 22, at Duane Banks Stadium, Johnston claimed their 6th state title with a landslide 11-1 victory over Dowling Catholic.

Pierce Anderson ‘23 was on the mound for the Dragons, allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run throughout 6 complete innings.

Anderson had lots of insurance from his offense, with 11 hits from the Dragons, including 3 hits and 2 RBI’s from Cade Godwin ‘22, and 2 RBI’s from freshman Will Nuss.

The game ultimately ended with a single by Godwin, allowing JT Garcia ‘22 and Andrew Bradshaw ‘22 to score and end the game by a mercy rule.
