Johnston Draws 1-1 With Rams

The back-to-back Class 4A champs welcomed the (1-0-1) Southeast Polk Rams to Dragon Stadium Monday evening. This was the real first taste at CIML conference play for both local teams.

Johnston, IA, The Rams came into Dragon Nation following a draw against the Knoxville Panthers 2-2 and claimed one win against the Indianola Indians. The Dragons, on the other hand, saw a 1-0 loss to the Ames Little Cyclones Friday evening, collecting five yellow cards and one red card. The Dragons hold the historical matchups against the Rams with 13 wins and a single loss with a final score of 3-2 on May 14th, 2019.

The Dragons would open the scoring roughly two minutes into the game following a great pass into the box by senior Nick Gourley. Enock Basunguci sticks with the play to make it 1-0 Dragons. Gourley grabbed the assist.

With seven minutes left in the first half, the Rams were awarded a free kick. Rams senior Jaxon Payton takes the free kick, and it takes a bounce in the goal keeper’s box and goes into the back of the net to tie it at 1-1 going into halftime. Samuel Wilson grabbed the assist.

A back-and-forth second half saw the Rams and Dragons draw 1-1. The Dragons host Lincoln Southwest this Saturday with a 2:00 scheduled kickoff.
