The Dragons (1-1) welcomed the Tigers of Cedar Falls (2-0) into Dragon Stadium Friday evening which ended in triple overtime with a final score of 37-34.
Cedar Falls opened the scoring, making it 7-0 Tigers with 6:28 left in the first quarter. It didn’t take long for the Tigers to stretch their lead to a two-possession game as Davarrion Clark rushed his way into the end zone, making a two-possession game. The Dragons offense, led by senior quarterback Will Nuss, marched down the field running 14 plays and covering 80 yards, which ended with a Jeffrey Scott one-yard rushing touchdown.
Ian Yates made his Point after touchdown (PAT), making it 14-7 Cedar Falls heading into halftime. The Dragons recovered a Cedar Falls fumble, which allowed them to march down the field and tie the game at 14. Cedar Falls struck again, making it 21-14. The Dragons once again showed they have grit as they tied the game up at 21-21. In the fourth quarter, Cedar Falls and Johnston traded possession, and both teams only scored 3 points in the fourth quarter, which meant they were headed to overtime. In the first possession of overtime, both teams exchanged field goals. In the second possession of overtime, each team scored a touchdown; both teams PAT’s were good. The Dragons put yet another field in their third possession of overtime. Cedar Falls would get the last laugh as they capsized on their third possession in overtime with a rushing touchdown. The Dragons are back in action this Friday at Valley.
