Johnston Soccer- Thursday night thriller

On Thursday, undefeated and #1-ranked Dowling Catholic made a trip to Dragon Stadium following Johnston’s back-to-back losses against Valley and Centennial.

25 APR 24

Johnston IA, In the final game of April, the Dragons were looking to end the month on a high note. Newly ranked #1, Dowling was seizing a perfect 10-0 start, beating Valley (1-0), Ankeny Centennial (4-2), Waukee (7-0), Ames (1-0) and Ankeny (1-0), which are all notable CIML Conference foes.  The game was a team effort; everyone played an important part. Cole Hanson played an incredible game once again, making seven saves, and his backline was there when he needed them the most. Sophomore Cael Leach fed Junior Kadin Nguyen down the right-hand side of the field and found Kadin with around two minutes left in the second half. Kadin was one-on-one with senior goalkeeper Hudson Porter, and Kadin beat Porter in the bottom right-hand corner to break Dowling’s undefeated season. Here’s what Johnston Head Coach James Frizzell said following the 1-0 win:

That was a massive result and a great bounce back performance from the boys. The expectations are high for the group for the rest of the way. We’re entering May here this week and we place a lot of emphasis on that month.”
