For the first time since 1973 the varsity wrestling team experienced two wrestlers in the state finals for 2013. Senior Logan Walkup and sophomore Henry Pohlmeyer competed in their own personal weight classes.
Walkup took second overall in the 160 weight class. Tim Miklus of S.E. Polk won the final round against Walkup 11-5. Pohlmeyer received first overall in the 106 weight class. He beat Jacob Schwarm of Bettendorf 6-1 in the final round.
Walkup feels he has accomplished a big goal for the wrestling team and wants future wrestlers to look up to him for his dedication to the wrestling team.
“I was honored to represent Johnston in one of the best state tournaments in the nation,” Walkup said.
