The varsity girls’ basketball team won against Iowa City High Feb. 24 with a score of 57-46, sending them straight to the state championships. As the girls’ team gears up for state on March 4, so does the girls’ track team.

Each member of the girls’  track team will be attending the state game at Wells Fargo Arena to cheer on and support their fellow Dragons as they take on the Dowling Catholic Maroons. “We are going to the basketball game, instead of practice,” track runner and sophomore Biz Foutch said. “We want to support our teammates, we’re all Dragons and being supportive is important.”

The girls’ basketball team has been practicing and lifting six days every week since November for their appearance at state. “There was no luck, it was definitely earned,” junior and varsity basketball player Julia Beswick said. “And the track team coming is so awesome. It’s crazy how much people are getting into the state tournment and supporting us, we are very grateful for all of it.”

All students are encouraged to attend the game and support the girls, similar to the girls’ track team. “I think it’s great that the track team is coming to watch our game,” junior and varsity basketball player Rachel Hinders said. “It means a lot to have fellow students come and support us.”
