Girls’ basketball loses to Centennial at state

After winning the first semi-final game in 82 year the Dragons went on to compete in the final girls’ state basketball game against the Ankeny Centennial Jaguars. Throughout the night the Dragons trailed the Jaguars, falling 27-21 at halftime. Finally the Dragons fell just behind the Jaguars with a score of 46-42 at the end of the night.

The girls’ basketball team broke Johnston records this season. The team holds the record for the most team wins, free throws per game and most three pointers per game.

 

Records of the season

  • Senior Rachel Hinders is the only one to have 500+ rebounds and 1,000+ points as well as being the all time rebound leader.
  • Senior Shayna Stubbs holds the record for single game assists and is the all time steals leader.
  • Senior Haylee Towers has the most single game three pointers.
  • Junior Taryn Knuth tied the record for rebounds in one game.
  • The girls’ basketball team finished the season with a 22-4 overall record.
