The girls’ volleyball team won their first round game against Ankeny in the state tournament Nov. 11. The Dragons won 25-20 in the first set, 25-17 in the second, lost 17-25 in the third and won the final match 26-24.

Senior EmmaGrace Walter thought the highlight of the game was coming back to win the fourth match. “We had to push through a letdown that we had after losing the third,” Walter said. “It’s great to be able to come together as a team and win like that.”

Junior Denise Ssozi led the team in kills with a total of 15. Senior Rachel Godwin was next on the team with seven.

“We played well with a lot of emotion for the first two games and lost it in the third,” Godwin said. “So we picked up the emotion again in the fourth and did well.”

The Dragons move on to the second round play top-ranked Bettendorf Thursday at 10 a.m. The pep bus will leave at 7:15 a.m.

“We played with a lot of heart today and showed why we deserve to be here,” Walter said.
