JHS’s Varsity Marching Band holds many distinct legacies: excellence on the field, a week-long band camp every summer, and, arguably a favorite among band members, Mall Day.
Every year, students are bussed to Jordan Creek mall and for several hours are allowed the chance to roam the stores and, if they’re so inclined, spend $150 at the Lego Store.
This is because the Saturday competition is a double header; Valleyfest in the morning, and Valley Showdown in the evening. These are two marching band competitions held by Valley High School, infamous for their merch and importance in the marching band world.
Johnston ended the shows with a 4th place finish in Valleyfest (scraping only two points off from first and increasing their score ten points from their previous competition) and 7th in Valley Showdown (receiving a similar score to the one they earned earlier in the day).
Mall Day as a tradition holds many memories and has served as a well deserved break for the students. This is Mall Day 2025.
