#1 Johnston suffer first loss on the season to #7 Valley

19 APR 24

West Des Moines IA, The #1 Dragon Boys headed to West Des Moines to face the 5-3 and #7 ranked Valley Tigers of West Des Moines on Friday evening at Valley Stadium. Valley junior Pablo Mendez opened the scoring, making it 1-0 Valley with his fourth goal of the season. Mendez doubled up in the first half, helping Valley hold a 2-0 lead with his fifth goal of the season heading into halftime. Valley senior Preston Kipnusu sealed a 3-0 win with his 10th goal on the season. Cole Hanson made five saves in the loss. Here’s what Johnston Head Coach James Frizzell said following the 3-0 loss:

We really don’t get time to dwell on results in this league and with this schedule. Nothing becomes history quicker than a game of soccer. Friday night just wasn’t a good night. Kudos to Valley for being the more opportunistic team and executing on their game plan. We have our takeaways and know what we need to do to better ourselves moving forward. If you told me we’d be 8-1 half way through our season we’d happily take it. Not sure I know anyone that wouldn’t sign up for that. We will respond.”
