Library showcases author picks

Most students have probably noticed the colorfully decorated board on the southwest wall of the LMC, but aside from a passing glance have probably paid it little attention. What it represents, however, goes back nearly a decade in the media center’s history.

“It started eight years ago when we had a student helper who had an author she really liked and wanted to spotlight,” Librarian Jane Behrens said. “After that she just kind of took that over, and every month she would highlight a new author, maybe finding some background information on them and display some of their books.”

Recently, the board goes through a change about once every six weeks. The latest iteration of the board, however, features James Dashner, author of books such as “The Death Order” and “The Maze Runner.”

“His books are really popular,” Behrens said. “He certainly strikes a chord with a lot of readers in the high school.”

The board does not necessarily have to be restricted only to library staff, either. “If students were to submit ideas for the board, it would be great,” Behrens said.
